REFRAFLUX® S LIGHT is a patented new development out of our range of calcium aluminate products.
Both, the melting point and the melting behaviour of the material can be precisely set and controlled by the raw material composition. The microporosity of this material has been designed in such a way that the heat insulating properties of the calcium aluminates are further improved. Thus REFRAFLUX® S LIGHT can be applied as single layer covering in the continuous casting tundish replacing the standard "sandwich covering" there.

Thus REFRAFLUX® S LIGHT can be applied as single layer covering in the continuous casting tundish replacing the standard "sandwich covering" there.
Since REFRAFLUX® S LIGHT is a pre-reacted material, it will not start sintering, even not at casting temperatures of 1550 °C.
Calcium aluminate
Thanks to its heat insulating properties, REFRAFLUX® S LIGHT is particularly suitable as ladle cover. As long as the steel surface is calm, REFRAFLUX® S LIGHT will insulate and reduce the heat loss of the melt.
Subsequently it is molten during the secondary metallurgy process (i.e. ladle furnace, ladle treatment) quickly building up a highly reactive slag for further processing.
