HYBRID: Optimized Sol-Gel Technology.

Hybrid technology permits the combination of faster heating up and high strength at low temperatures. It is therefore ideally suited for applications in which high strengths are required in the range of 20 - 1000 °C; for example in the production of prefabricated components or the lining of fluidized bed furnaces and refuse incineration plants.
Advantages of hybrid castables compared with conventional cement containing castables:
  • Faster heating up with shorter downtimes

  • Cost and energy-saving

  • Very good adherence on existing refractory materials

  • Installation possible on hot surfaces and with high ambient temperatures

  • Higher application temperature limits

  • Optimized thermomechanical behaviour

  • Long storage life of 12 months

  • Increased cold crushing strength and modulus of rupture as well as optimized abrasion resistance in the temperature range below 1000 °C.

REFRAJET® Addmix: An innovative injection system

The REFRAJET® Addmix technology is an innovative injection system that was developed specifically for the installation of cement-free sol-gel bonded refractory concretes of the REFRAJET® Nanobond type.

The injection system creates a reactive aerosol that is injected centrally into the continuous flow of dry gunning mix material. A liquid binder can be added to the pre-wetted dry material via a conventional nozzle system at the end of the deliver hose.

Pre-wetting of the dry gunning mix offers several advantages, such as reduced dust generation at the gunning nozzle, less material rebound – particularly during overhead work – plus enhanced bonding to refractory surfaces.
Moreover, the concrete's cold crushing strength and cold modulus of rupture are increased, porosity is reduced, and a denser concrete structure is obtained.
The process has been optimized for cement-free shotcretes of the REFRAJET® Nanobond type, but it can also be used for many other concretes from Refratechnik's product range.

REFRABOARD®: Innovative insulation for ingot casting.

REFRABOARD® is a shaped and pressed panel made of biogenic silica.

The highly insulating panels are suitable for use in a wide range of industrial applications. Shaped panels have already become established as head covers for ingot molds, and for the upward ingot casting technique. Deep shrink holes in the ingot head are prevented by the panel insulation.
On request by customers, Refratechnik offers this option for dust-free insulation in direct contact with hot media in the form of decomposing panels for one-time insulation, or as permanent panels for continuous use.
The advantages of REFRABOARD® at a glance:
  • Up to 80 % lower temperature losses

  • 100 % natural, renewable raw material

  • High micro-porosity for excellent insulating properties

  • Suitable for temperatures up to 1600 °C

  • Improved occupational safety thanks to dust-free processing

Low-alpha: The innovative refractory solution for

equipment subjected to high thermomechanical stresses.

Optimized refractory concepts for the steelmaking industry

In modern steel production, plant reliability is playing an increasingly important role. Innovative and comprehensive refractory concepts are decisive when it comes to optimizing steel production processes in terms of performance and costs. In close cooperation with our customers, we develop, test, and supply perfect solutions.
Refractory linings must withstand extreme temperature changes, e.g. during cyclic filling and casting operations.
After addressing this challenge in detail, Refratechnik has developed an optimum solution: The new low-alpha technology.

REFRAFLEX®: The bond of the future

The before/after effects: Classical resin bonding versus REFRAFLEX® bonding

REFRAFLEX® bonding is used in all our MACARBON® bricks. REFRAFLEX® is the first resin-based bond that is better than pitch bonding, as it does not use pitch. It is also better than conventional phenol resin bonding, because the carbon produced during coking does not become rigid and brittle, but crystalline like graphite, so that the refractory material gives way instead of compensating excess strain with microfissures. Consequently, REFRAFLEX® offers all the advantages of pitch bonding but eliminates its major disadvantage: because the characteristic polycyclic aromatics of pitch have become intolerable in the steel industry.

REPROMAT: The ideal slag conditioner for steelmaking

The use of REPROMAT has the following advantages:

  • ‎Fast achievement of the optimum degree of saturation

  • High reactivity and fast dissolution of the MgO in the slag

  • Minimized wear of the MACARBON® refractory lining through a reduction of the corrosion potential

  • Optimized energy balance when used in electric arc furnaces and ladle furnaces through improved formation of foamed slag

  • Simplified slag coating of the refractory lining when used in converters

  • Unproblematic storage

  • Conveying and batching is possible with existing material handling systems

CERAMAC®: The intelligent solution for utmost service life without emissions

The use of CERAMAC® has the following advantages:

Easier compliance with environmental legislation, and increased service life – these were the aims of CERAMAC® development. In our lining concepts, the pre-fired material reduces smoke generation and the release of particles, while simultaneously improving the mechanical properties. In this way, CERAMAC® contributes significantly towards cost reduction.

CERAMAC® – low emissions and long service

During the past years and decades, magnesia-carbon bricks have become the standard refractory product for many areas in steelmaking. However, when compared with other ceramic refractory products, MgO-C plays a special role. When delivered. and during installation, all carbon-bonded products are in an “unfinished” state. Only after coming into contact with molten steel in the steelworks do the MgO-C bricks obtain their final properties.
