QMAG Pty Limited is one of the world's largest producers of Deadburned, Electrofused and Calcined Magnesia for the global refractory and chemical markets. Magnesite is mined at our Kunwarara Operation; transported and further processed at our Parkhurst Site. The Process Development Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and advice for the optimization of product quality and consistency, improving process efficiencies and plant effectiveness. They will provide an important link between external consultants, energy providers as well as QMAG engineering and operations teams across both Kunwarara and Parkhurst. The role will include all aspects of the operations but will have a specific focus on energy saving and efficiency projects including heat recovery and alternative renewable energies.
With a strong commitment to the safe and efficient operation on the sites, the Process Development Engineer, will contribute to the Research and Development team and the broader QMAG business by embracing a collaborative and high performing culture that ensures the optimization and efficiency of the plants.
The Role
The role of Process Development Engineer will involve, amongst other things:
Participate and/or lead feasibility studies, business cases, detailed designs for projects utilising multi-discipline design teams related to the following areas:
Renewable Energy
Hydrogen and Ammonia
Heat reclamation and CogenerationDevelop, implement and monitor proposals to increase plant throughput and improve plant flexibility.
Improve efficiencies and reduce costs through continuous improvements
Liaise between operations and external software providers to build dynamic process optimisation models
Identification and development of process control techniques to ensure product quality and optimize plant functions
Provide technical advice and direction to facilitate the best processing outcomes from both minor and major engineering projects
Identify opportunities to improve systems and equipment efficiencies to reduce emissions
The Requirements
We are looking for people with the following:
Essential:
Tertiary qualifications in Process or Chemical Engineering
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in heavy industrial processing environments
Competent in developing and using dynamic process simulation and optimization models
Excellent communication skills (English), both written and verbal
Experience in process improvement and plant optimization; including plant trials and reporting
A current driver’s license
A strong commitment to safety
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships quickly
Highly Desirable:
Experience of heat recovery / electricity generation projects
Qualifications / experience in hot work processes, pyro-processing in an industrial minerals field
Experience working with Citect SCADA and/or PLCs
Experience of working with Matlab or other process simulation software
Knowledge of 5S, Six Sigma, Lean and Standard Work tools
